Yesterday in India Millions of unbranded and largely Chinese mobile phones were disconnected by mobile service providers. It was all because of fake, invalid, illegal IMEI numbers. This action was taken by the Government of India for security purposes. Now mobile phones with no valid IMEI would not be connected to any mobile network across the country. According to Mobile companies about 25 Million such phones are being blocked. People prefer to buy cheap cell phones from gray market with lot of features but it seems that won’t be happening anymore.

Nokia R&D Layoffs

Just four days ago Nokia lay off 330 jobs in Finland, Denmark (R&D) and yet again today it is said to have cut around 220 R&D jobs in Japan. The reason behind this layoff is said to better align company’s operation with its focused portfolio. By all this we assume that Nokia would now focus on smaller number of more iconic devices going forward instead of 50 or more phones a year. The other reason we find behind this layoff is Nokia losing market share to other competitors especially Apple resulting in less profits as before. It should be noted this year alone Nokia layoff has reached more then 4000 employees world wide.

There were lots of talks about the Nokia new platform Maemo and its future, everyone was a bit confused would S60 remain or be taken over by Maemo? Now this confusion is somewhat solved, Nokia would still be coming up with phones using S60 platform but by 2012 switch would be made from S60 to Maemo gradually. It is seen that Maemo is far developed and strong platform compared to S60 and is the one for the future handsets by Nokia. Now we can wait for another phone by Nokia using Maemo, that would surely give an idea way the Nokia is moving ahead.
