LG’s new slider phone is as soft as human skin

 

Aving.net reported about a new LG phone hitting the Korean market today called the LG-SH240. It features an elastic silicone front panel that  spreads throughout the keypad, menu, and directional button. A keypad with stretchy, skin-like texture sounds like an odd selling point to me, not to mention creepy. I was inclined to believe perhaps LG’s message was lost in translation until I saw the promotional pictures, which do a good job of illustrating the point with touchy-feely models showing lots of skin.

Apart from having a silicone keypad, the LG-SH240 features a two-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 3G, MP3 player, and video telephony and is available in Korea for about $400. I admit I’m a bit fascinated by the wacky things designers do to phones, and this is definitely one of the wackiest phone features of all time.Read More About It

Sony Ericsson W700 delivers 900,000 volts

Stun guns that look like phones are nothing new, but they usually look pretty crappy. That’s not the case with this Sony Ericsson W700. It looks normal, but has a stun button that delivers a 900,000-volt electric shock via two small metal prongs.

Nvidia rolls out ‘world’s fastest’ graphics card

Nvidia has rolled out what it claims is the “fastest graphics card on the planet”, the GeForce 9800 GX2, as expected.

The GX2 contains two ‘G92′ GPUs, each with 128 unified shader processors running at 1.5GHz – the chip as a whole is clocked at 600MHz. The two GPUs connect to 512MB of GDDR 3 video memory running at 1GHz.

The dual-slot card delivers a fill rate of 76.8bn textures a second, Nvidia claimed – more than three times the 20.8bn t/s rate the recently released top-of-the-line GeForce 9600 GT can manage.
The GX2 has an SLI connector, so you can connect a pair of them on a suitable motherboard and get the graphics processing power of four GPUs. If you’re worried about the power drain when you’re not gaming, Nvidia said its Hybrid Power system means you can power down the GX2 when it’s not needed and use and integrated GPU instead.Read More About It

Sony readies multi-room music streaming stereo

Sony has updated its Giga Juke range of hard disk-based home stereos, adding two slimline models. One, the company claimed, can become the basis for a multi-room music streaming set up.The entry-level

NAS-E35HD and higher spec NAS-SC55PKE both have an 80GB hard drive inside, and can rip tracks from a CD at 4x and 16x speeds, respectively. Each has the essential iPod dock slot, but music can also be transferred to and from Sony’s Walkman audio player range and Sony Ericsson’s Walkman handsets.
